Alternatives · checked Sept 2026
Superwhisper alternatives, ranked by why you are leaving.
Superwhisper is a good app. People replace it for three specific reasons — the price, the account, or wanting something simpler — and the right replacement is different for each. We make one of these, and we have put it where it belongs rather than at the top.
Superwhisper costs $8.49 a month, $84.99 a year, or roughly $250 once. It runs Whisper locally, offers optional cloud models, supports Intel Macs, Windows and iOS, and has a free tier with no time limit. If none of that is a problem for you, the honest answer is to keep it — it is the more mature app and nothing below beats it on breadth. What follows is for the people it is not right for.
The six that genuinely replace it.
1. VoiceInk — cheapest, if you own one Mac
$25 once for a single Mac, $39 for two, $49 for three, checked Sept 2026. Open source, on-device, no account. Over three years that is a fraction of any subscription here, and you can read the code to verify what it does. It has no meeting capture and no per-app modes. If you want local dictation and nothing else, stop here — this is the least you can spend.
2. Blurt — cheapest subscription, and no account at all
$3.99 a month, $29 a year, or $99 once. Whisper and Parakeet run on your Mac, there is no account and no cloud path to switch on by accident, and meeting mode captures the call's system audio as well as your mic. It is Apple Silicon only, it has no free tier beyond a 14-day trial and then 20 dictations a day, and it has no custom prompts. We make it, so weigh that.
3. Wispr Flow — if you want the most polished thing
$15 a month, or $12 billed annually, checked Sept 2026. The best out-of-the-box experience in the category and the least configuration. The trade is that it processes your speech in the cloud and requires an account. If polish matters more to you than where the audio goes, this is the upgrade from Superwhisper rather than the escape from it.
4. MacWhisper — if you mostly transcribe files
Pro at 64 euros once, or a subscription through the App Store, checked Sept 2026. It is excellent at turning recordings you already have into text, which is a different job from typing while you talk. Several people run MacWhisper for files and something else for live dictation, and that is a reasonable setup.
5. Voibe — if you need Windows too
$9.90 a month list, usually discounted to $7.50, or $89.10 a year discounted to about $59, checked Sept 2026. On-device on the Mac, cloud on Windows. It creates an account in the app and matches it at checkout. Worth a look only if you genuinely work across both platforms.
6. Apple Dictation — free, and fine for a sentence
Built into macOS, costs nothing, runs on device for supported languages. It is genuinely good for short messages. It falls apart on proper nouns and technical vocabulary and gives you no way to teach it yours, which is the exact gap every paid app in this list exists to fill. Try it first — if it is enough, you have saved your money.
FAQ
What is the cheapest Superwhisper alternative?
VoiceInk, at $25 once for a single Mac as of September 2026. Blurt is the cheapest subscription at $3.99 a month, and cheaper than VoiceInk only if you stop within about six months. Apple Dictation is free and already installed.
Which alternatives run fully offline?
VoiceInk, Blurt and Apple Dictation transcribe on your Mac with no cloud option in the path. Superwhisper can run locally but also offers cloud models. Wispr Flow processes in the cloud. Voibe is on-device on macOS and cloud on Windows.
Which ones work without creating an account?
VoiceInk and Blurt need no account at all — both use a licence key. Apple Dictation uses your existing Apple ID. Superwhisper requires an account for Pro features, and Wispr Flow and Voibe both require one.
Is there a free Superwhisper alternative with no limits?
Apple Dictation, if its accuracy is enough for you. Among the paid apps, Superwhisper's own free tier is the most generous — unlimited local Whisper with no time limit — which is a real reason to stay rather than switch.
Do any of these support Intel Macs?
Superwhisper and Voibe do. Blurt does not and will not: it is Apple Silicon and macOS 14 or later only. Check the requirements before buying anything here if you are on an older machine.
