Alternatives · checked Sept 2026

VoiceInk alternatives, for the few reasons to leave it.

VoiceInk is one of the best deals in Mac dictation: $25 once, open source, on-device, with Whisper and Parakeet. Most people should keep it. The ones who leave want something specific, such as Windows, a free plan, meeting transcription or AI cleanup that never touches a cloud model.

By Jahanzaib Akhter · Updated

VoiceInk costs $25 once for one Mac and runs Whisper and Parakeet on device, so the reason to switch is usually specific. Spokenly is free for local dictation and runs on more platforms. Blurt, at $3.99 a month, adds meeting transcription and AI cleanup that runs on the Mac with no key. Dictivo covers Windows and Intel Macs for a one-time price.

Pick by what VoiceInk is missing for you.

1. Spokenly — if you want it free, or on Windows and Linux

Local Whisper and Parakeet for $0 with no usage limit, on macOS, Windows, Linux and iPhone, checked 30 Sept 2026. It also has voice-driven agentic actions and MCP voice input for Claude Code and Cursor. Cloud models and AI cleanup are on Pro at $9.99 a month or with your own key.

2. Blurt — if you want meetings and local AI cleanup

$3.99 a month, $29 a year or $99 once for three Macs. Meeting mode records your mic and the call audio with no bot, filler removal and formatting run on a local model with no API key, and the vocabulary learns from your edits. No account. Apple Silicon only, closed source. We make it, so weigh that.

3. Dictivo — if you need Windows or an Intel Mac

$29 once until 31 October 2026, then $49, for up to three devices on Mac, including Intel, and Windows, checked 30 Sept 2026. Local mode keeps audio on the device and needs no account. Updates after the first year are an optional $24 a year.

4. Superwhisper — if you want more configuration

$8.49 a month or $84.99 a year, with a free tier, checked Sept 2026. Custom modes, local and cloud models, and apps beyond the Mac. Pro needs an account.

5. Wispr Flow — if you would trade privacy for polish

$15 a month, or $12 billed annually, checked Sept 2026. The smoothest experience in the category, on every major platform, with cloud processing and an account.

6. Apple Dictation — free, already installed

No custom vocabulary, no history and no formatting, but it costs nothing and is fine for a quick message. Worth remembering before paying for anything.

FAQ

Is there a free alternative to VoiceInk?

Yes. Spokenly's Local Models plan runs Whisper and Parakeet on your device for $0 with no usage limit, as of 30 September 2026. Apple Dictation is free too, with lower accuracy on names.

Which VoiceInk alternative has meeting transcription?

Blurt records your microphone and the call's system audio and transcribes both on the Mac with no bot. Spokenly also records meetings on Mac without a bot. Wispr Flow has a cloud notetaker.

Which alternative works on Windows?

Spokenly, Dictivo, Superwhisper and Wispr Flow all have Windows versions. Blurt and VoiceInk are Mac only.

Is Blurt more private than VoiceInk?

No. Both transcribe on your Mac with no account, and VoiceInk publishes its source. Blurt's difference is that its AI formatting also runs locally with no key, and that it has meeting mode.
