Dragon replacement
Dragon left the Mac in 2018. Here is what took its place.
There is no current Dragon product for macOS. The good news is that the model quality you were paying hundreds for is now a download, and it does not need an hour of voice training first.
People still search for this because nothing announced itself as the replacement. Nuance discontinued Dragon Professional Individual for Mac and never shipped a successor, so anyone still on it is running unsupported software on an old macOS. What changed since is that speech models got good enough that per-user training stopped being necessary.
What has changed since Dragon.
No enrolment, no profile to rebuild
Dragon needed you to read passages so it could learn your voice, and that profile was a thing you backed up and worried about. Modern models are trained broadly enough to skip it. You install and start dictating.
Accuracy is now tuned by vocabulary, not by training
Instead of retraining a voice profile, you tell the app the words it will not know. Blurt takes a custom vocabulary, replacement rules for words it consistently mishears, and it proposes fixes from corrections you have already made.
What you do lose
Dragon's deep voice command and machine control, its transcription of recorded dictation for legal and medical workflows, and its formal accuracy claims for regulated settings. Nothing in the current Mac field replaces all of that. If voice control of the machine is the requirement, look at macOS Voice Control rather than a dictation app.

Apple Dictation if free is enough. VoiceInk if you want the cheapest one-time local purchase. Superwhisper if you need Intel Macs or Windows. Blurt if you want local dictation with no account, two engines and a $99 lifetime. Cloud services if you need a phone app and do not mind an account.

Is Dragon still available for Mac?
No. Dragon Professional Individual for Mac was discontinued in 2018 and there is no current macOS product. Windows versions continued, which is why search results still look alive.
What is the closest thing to Dragon on a Mac today?
For dictation accuracy, a local Whisper app such as Blurt, VoiceInk or Superwhisper. For controlling the Mac by voice, macOS Voice Control, which is built in. No single product covers both the way Dragon did.
Is modern dictation as accurate as Dragon was?
On general speech, comfortably. Whisper large-v3-turbo transcribes accurately without any per-user training, which Dragon required. Where Dragon still wins in memory is specialist medical and legal vocabularies backed by decades of tuning, and there you should test carefully with your own terms before switching.
Can I move my Dragon vocabulary across?
Not directly. There is no import path. In Blurt you would add the terms as custom vocabulary and replacement rules, which takes a few minutes for a list you already know.
Do I need to be online?
Not with Blurt. Once the model is downloaded, dictation runs entirely on your Mac with no account and no connection, which is closer to how Dragon worked than any cloud service is.
