Alternatives · checked Sept 2026

Wispr Flow alternatives, starting with the ones that never upload.

Wispr Flow is the most polished dictation app on the Mac and the easiest to start with. People leave it for two reasons: $15 a month, and the fact that it sends your speech to a server and asks you to sign in. Both have straightforward answers.

The important split is not price, it is where your voice is processed. Wispr Flow transcribes in the cloud and offers a privacy mode with zero retention; that is a policy, and policies change. Four of the six below transcribe on your own Mac, where there is no policy to change. If you are switching for privacy rather than for money, start with those.

Six replacements, and who each one is for.

1. Blurt — if you want it local, cheap and account-free

$3.99 a month, $29 a year, or $99 once. Whisper or Parakeet on your Mac, no account, no cloud path, and the AI cleanup runs locally too, so there is no API key to add. Meeting mode captures the call's system audio without a bot joining. Apple Silicon and macOS 14+ only, and there is no unlimited free tier. We make this one.

2. Superwhisper — the closest feature-for-feature match

$8.49 a month, $84.99 a year, or about $250 once, checked Sept 2026. The nearest thing to Flow in capability, with custom per-app modes and prompts Flow does not offer, plus optional cloud models if you want them. It also has a free tier with no time limit, and it supports Intel Macs, Windows and iOS. If you liked Flow but want more control, this is the switch.

3. VoiceInk — if you would rather pay once

$25 once for one Mac, $39 for two, $49 for three, checked Sept 2026. Open source and on-device, so the privacy claim is inspectable rather than promised. No meeting capture, fewer conveniences. Against $15 a month it pays for itself in under two months.

4. Voibe — if you also work on Windows

$9.90 a month list, usually discounted to $7.50, checked Sept 2026. On-device on the Mac, cloud on Windows, account created in the app. Cheaper than Flow and covers both platforms, but it does not remove the cloud from your workflow if Windows is where you actually type.

5. MacWhisper — for recordings rather than live typing

Pro at 64 euros once, checked Sept 2026. This is not a Flow replacement for dictation; it is the tool for transcribing audio files you already have. Listed because people searching for Flow alternatives are sometimes actually looking for this.

6. Apple Dictation — free, already there

Costs nothing, on-device for supported languages, no install. Weak on names and technical terms with no way to teach it. Worth ten minutes before you pay anyone, because for short messages it may be all you needed.

FAQ

Is there a free Wispr Flow alternative?

Apple Dictation is free and built in. Superwhisper has a free tier that runs local Whisper with no time limit, which is the most generous free option among the paid apps. Blurt has a 14-day trial and then a 20-a-day cap rather than a free tier.

Which Wispr Flow alternative does not send audio to a server?

Blurt, VoiceInk and Apple Dictation process entirely on your Mac. Superwhisper can too, provided you do not enable its cloud model options. Voibe is on-device on macOS but cloud on Windows.

Do any of them work without an account?

Blurt and VoiceInk need no account — both issue a licence key instead of a login, so there is nothing to sign up for and nothing to delete later. Wispr Flow, Superwhisper Pro and Voibe all require one.

What does Wispr Flow do better than all of these?

It is the most polished and the least configuration. It works well the moment you install it, across macOS, Windows, iPhone and Android. If you value that over local processing and you are fine with $15 a month, staying is a defensible choice and we would rather say so.

How much do I save switching from Wispr Flow?

Against $15 a month: Blurt at $29 a year saves about $151 a year, Superwhisper at $84.99 a year saves about $95, and VoiceInk at $25 once pays for itself in under two months. Prices checked September 2026.
