Local AI cleanup
Speech in, writing out. No API key.
Raw transcripts read like speech: ums, false starts, one long paragraph. Blurt cleans them up on your Mac, with no key to paste in and no request to anyone's server.

Blurt cleans up dictation on the Mac itself. Rules remove filler words and turn spoken commands like “new paragraph” into formatting, and a local Qwen model restores punctuation, paragraphs and lists and powers Polish. There is no API key and no per-token cost, and it works offline. Blurt runs on Apple Silicon Macs for $3.99 a month, $29 a year or $99 once.
Three layers, all on the Mac
Cleanup: filler out
Rules strip the ums and false starts and fix capitalisation. Filler lists cover English, German, Spanish and French. Because this layer is rules, not a model, it is instant and changes nothing you did not say.
Spoken formatting commands
With cleanup on, say “comma”, “question mark” or “new paragraph” and you get the punctuation, not the word. Line and paragraph commands also work in German, Spanish and French, for example “neuer Absatz” or “nouvelle ligne”.
Smart formatting: paragraphs and lists
A local Qwen model, about 1.3 GB and downloaded once, turns a five-minute answer into paragraphs and lists even when you never said “bullet”. It is a separate switch from cleanup, so you can turn it off when you want raw text.
Polish, after the fact
Select text in any app, press ⌘⌥1, and the same local model rewrites it in place: filler gone, punctuation fixed, the ramble broken up.
No key, no token bill
Some dictation apps route AI formatting through a cloud model or ask for your own OpenAI key. Blurt has no key field because nothing is called. It works on a plane, on a locked-down network, and costs the same however much you dictate.
What it does not do
No custom prompts of your own and no translation. A large cloud model will rewrite more ambitiously than a 1.3 GB local one. Blurt trades that for never sending your words anywhere.
FAQ
Is there a dictation app with AI cleanup that works offline?
Yes. Blurt removes filler words with rules and restores punctuation, paragraphs and lists with a local Qwen model on an Apple Silicon Mac. After the one-off download it works with the wifi off, and there is no API key.
Does the AI cleanup send my text anywhere?
No. Blurt's cleanup, smart formatting and Polish all run on your Mac. Nothing is sent to us or to an AI provider.
Can I turn the AI formatting off?
Yes. In Blurt, cleanup and smart formatting are separate switches in Settings. The setting is global; Blurt has no per-app profiles.
Which languages does filler removal handle?
Blurt's filler lists cover English, German, Spanish and French. Transcription itself covers many more languages; only the filler word lists are limited to those four.
